The Prince of Wales will represent the COP30 climate summit in South America in the coming weeks, according to the royal household.

The father and son duo appeared together on Thursday evening at a reception preceding the climate summit, which is planned for in the northern Brazilian city of Belém.

Father and son were present at the museum gathering, marking an unusual joint appearance at a climate summit preparatory event co-hosted by the United Kingdom administration.

Climate Leadership Dedication

The King has been a long-time champion of biodiversity preservation - and the Prince of Wales has assumed the responsibility, with his own Earthshot awards, which will be held in Brazil ahead of the COP summit.

Royal sources have characterized the Prince's participation at the upcoming climate summit as taking on an important role in "climate diplomacy".

Previous Activities

The monarch and his heir, making a joint entrance in the state Bentley, were greeted participants featuring conservation experts, researchers, climate change campaigners, foreign representatives and government officials.

This participation featured addresses together with President Emmanuel Macron of France and other international figures at the Marine Economy Conference in Monaco earlier this year.

Earthshot Awards Connection

The COP30 summit will dovetail with the William's personal Earthshot environmental awards, which will finish in the Brazilian city the previous day he joins the COP summit on the sixth of November.

In recent days the prince described the Earthshot finalists as "modern-day pioneers".

Monarch's Environmental Record

The King has been a prominent presence at past COP meetings, giving the opening address in Dubai for the 28th Conference of Parties, including the statement: "We are custodians of the planet, not its owners".

"For decades I've committed a large proportion of my life trying to alert people to the existential threats facing us over climate change, environmental shifts and ecological decline," the sovereign addressed participants.
