One 14-year-old boy was found dead just days after being wrongly blamed of taking the cremated remains of a dead baby during a burglary, an inquest has heard.

Tragic Finding

The young boy's mother and father found his remains in his room at his Flintshire home on 19 November 2021.

Untrue Accusations Start

The inquest heard how his parent got a message on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if her son was her offspring. The communication added: "Inform him appreciation for burgling my flat."

In a testimony read to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the media, asserting her baby's ashes had been taken in a break-in - a allegation which was false.

Police Inquiry

An investigation report from police later concluded the alleged burglary victim had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the property was never taken in the first place".

Media reports about the supposed stolen ashes generated online responses, and although Kai was not named in the posts, his parent said individuals "knew it was him".

The "online posts were extremely distressing", she said.

Emotional Health Effect

She explained that Kai had been identified with mild ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' views genuinely mattered to him.

"This must have affected him severely," she said, "especially when this was not true".

Kai was detained at home, but nothing was discovered. He was transported to a police station and later released pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in touch, the inquest heard, but had not contacted the relatives by the moment of his death.

Isolation and Anxiety

His parent said Kai "became isolated" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could feel like much longer".

When she talked to him about the alleged incident, she said her child told her he had gone into the residence because the woman who resided there had said he could utilize the bathroom anytime he wanted, but denied removing anything.

Online Bullying

In a combined testimony between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being bullied online after the accusations.

The inquest learned that a 19-year-old encouraged the teenager to end his life.

She had no worries on the evening before he passed away, explaining how she had listened to him "laughing and joking".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, affectionate" young man, and said her "family is totally shattered".

He had been "obviously hiding his concerns", she said, adding that he could not bear to have anybody "have negative thoughts of him".

Educational Response

The inquest heard from educational personnel at the local secondary school.

On November 8th, she "heard some boys talking that the student had been arrested and that was the first I heard".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the discussion, the staff member said she rang the family's parents' landline and left a message saying she had communicated to the student about the allegations.

The court heard his parents said they never receive that message.

Official Finding

Senior coroner informed the hearing he would wait for reports regarding what improvements had been made to handling suspects with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of subsequent deaths report.

Providing a narrative finding, he stated: "Around 8 November 2021, unsubstantiated allegations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old child.

"Likely falsehoods were afterwards exaggerated and exaggerated through the platform of online networks.

"During November 11th, he was interviewed by the authorities and following his questioning he was freed while inquiries continued."

The official concluded: "There is no proof that the actions or omissions of any organization led to or added to his passing and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted action it is impossible to determine his purpose."
